Being only 2 minutes long, it's the shortest of ANY of my (at the time of writing) 123 tracks. It's also one of (at the time of writing) only three soundscapes I've finished. It has no kick drums or any percussion which I'm definitely not used to.
This track began on January 28, 2020, and I deliberately went for an uneasy, disturbing soundscape. It was based off of the growing uncertainty about the new coronavirus, back then known as "the strange pneumonia in Wuhan". I felt something bad on the horizon and I'm sure others have too. Now, it has turned into a pandemic, with millions of cases worldwide and hundreds of thousands of deaths, with the world's eyes glued to the alarming number of new case counts daily.
I developed this track further in March of 2020 when my city Perth went into lockdown, the streets were empty, and social distancing, working from home, and ideas of lockdowns, quarantines, and "essential workers" became normalised in the public consciousness.
My aim for this track was to sum up the general uneasiness of society in musical form, as our worlds get flipped upside down and back-to-front before our transition into this "new normal". Hence the cover art and title.
It was also my attempt at something very weird and very short, which was supported by, of course, my drive for experimentation through intense automation of the flanger plugin on the master of this track. (15 April 2022 note: I did not know this genre at the time, but "weirdcore" would be the perfect genre to describe this track.)
Anyway, if you have any feedback, email me or send me a message on Mastodon. I use your feedback to improve my tracks!
