"Purple" is the fourth track in my Enjoy the Ride album and one of my most synthwaviest tracks ever. "Purple" started in the early hours of October 25, 2021, the same morning Not Mussel was created (and when I was half-deaf). It was originally called "Old Meets New" because the instruments in this track were a mix of the oldest ones I made plus the newest ones.
As someone with synesthesia, where one sense stimulates another, the track was named after the colour I most associate with how it sounds. To me, this track sounds purple, which is why I named it that. Coupled with the fact that Purple is synthwave and that purple is a very popular colour in synthwave aesthetics, it was a no brainer this track would be called "Purple".
The bear in the cover art is called Cockburn! Pronounced "co-burn" and named after a Western Australian suburb, he LOVES the colour purple as well as pretty much every "wave" in music, including synthwave, retrowave, chillwave, and vaporwave. He's basically a giant teddy bear!
It was finished in mid-January 2022, as one of 4 tracks completed in a short space of time, the others being Waterslide, Superhero, and Here For It!
Purple is my 151st finished track and 72nd release! Let me know what you think on Mastodon, or via email!
