The cover artwork of Honey Badger Energy, showing the MOULE WORLD character Honey (A.K.A. HUNNY BADJA), an anthropomorphic cartoon punk honey badger wheelchair user. She's got an angry expression, looking towards the viewer with her pierced eyebrows at a scornful angle, her mouth wide open with her sharp teeth bared, and both her middle fingers raised showing pink claws. She's also got spiky hair with pink tips, pink earrings, and a battle jacket with pink spikes across its shoulders and sleeves, a grey vest, adorned with buttons and patches such as the Fediverse rainbow star, the disability pride flag, the feminism and anarchy symbols, an anti-Bugs symbol which can be interpreted as anti-AI, and an intersex-inclusive progress pride flag. There's a lot of detail in terms of subtle shadows, scratch marks and a sketchy texture overlaid over the whole image. Honey sits in front of a grey brick wall background, separated by thick black and white contour lines, with a vignette surrounding the cover artwork and the MOULE Y2K-aesthetic font logo in pink in the upper-left corner. The words "HONEY BADGER ENERGY" is written in pink marker at the bottom outlined with black and white contour lines.

Honey Badger Energy

Introducing HONEY BADGER ENERGY - Bringing some fearless punk energy into 2025 with HUNNY BADJA, the punk AF honey badger who's a threat to all forms of hate and is unashamedly her punk self regardless of what anyone thinks about that!

During the December 2024 holidays, I became interested in punk subcultures, in particular disability-themed ones like Stimpunks and can strongly relate to their "do-it-yourself" fierce energy, especially as an autistic person. In particular, their page Punk is Autistic and the linked Autistic Culture podcast episode of the same name started a mental domino chain leading me to finally declare war against the inner perfectionist, arbitrary patterns, and other monsters in my head, and start 2025 with a kick-ass punk metal DnB track. I'm calling this new attitude "honey badger energy", inspired by the reputation of honey badgers!

On January 7th, I started making this track with some death metal melodies I copied and pasted from unfinished project files I made years ago, then built some fast-paced beats, and eventually slower-paced beats as you hear in the intro, followed by some synth leads I managed to make sound like electric guitars. I was inspired by FalKKonE's metal remix of Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King It was originally going to be exclusively punk rock, but it quickly became a drum and bass track as I took the fast-paced drum and bass beats from CTRL+ALT+DELGADO. On January 9th, I spent the day working on it, mastering it, resulting in this track and relinquishing my love of making music and artwork after a long rut from late 2024.

This track also marks a new way of me releasing music as part of my war against old patterns: as soon as I finished it, I immediately released it on my Faircamp and then my Bandcamp, then distributing out to other platforms like Apple Music, TIDAL etc. later, as I've found pre-save campaigns and scheduling music months in advance like DistroKid and indie music "gurus" were saying to do was holding back my creativity. Ever since I joined the Fediverse I've been caring less and less about pleasing algorithms and realise just how much it was holding back my creativity. Making and instantly releasing Honey Badger Energy is a refreshing change. As a bonus, it's also my 200th finished track!

This track introduces a new MOULE WORLD character for the first time in one-and-a-half years: Honey (A.K.A. HUNNY BADJA)! She's a punk AF honey badger who's a threat to all forms of hate and is unashamedly her punk self regardless of what anyone thinks about that! According to HYPER HYENA, Honey was the lead singer and electric guitarist for a band she was in, as our favourite all-caps hyena was the drummer!

This cover art took six-and-a-half hours to make and was very straightforward and extremely enjoyable to do, I was smiling all throughout its creation, even while spending a lot of time on detailed parts like shadows. I believe my effort really paid off in the end as this is one of my most favourite cover artworks I've made in a while. The very fact HUNNY BADJA is flipping the bird is another literal and metaphorical pair of middle fingers to my inner perfectionist as it's my first cover art with deliberately rude hand gestures, which would've been unthinkable for me to include a few months ago.

Embracing the punk movement encourages me to be fearlessly myself and I've never felt this liberated in years. In a year where the planet continues to be destroyed, fascism creeps back, basic decency and kindness is eroding, billionaires hoard all the wealth, and common sense becomes more uncommon, I hope this track encourages you to embrace your punk side just like HUNNY BADJA, and fight back against blatant fascism, systemic injustice, and destructive internalised beliefs.
