🎥 Endgame Cover Art Timelapse: yewtu.be/watch?v=-K04PpfuB3g
Endgame begun on March 3, 2020 under its original title "Grand Design" (though Endgame was an alternative title for it), and was intended to be ominous-sounding to reflect my dread about the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It's been through development hell since, but on December 15, 2023, I finally finished and mastered it, adding some cool bass effects as well. I think my mastering is getting better.
The track has been re-purposed and now soundtracks an intense chess match between Robin (left) and Strattzr (right). Strattzr has had enough of GLHF and the fights he has to break between OpDaMyZr and PWNZR, so his last game as a member of GLHF is this chess match with Robin. This pair of cunning foxes are amazing at chess, and in this track the bass notes starting at 2:13 symbolise the moves between the two of them.
In the end, it is Robin who comes out victorious. As a reward, Strattzr offered Robin membership in GLHF as the new Fox #15, but Robin respectfully declined, wanting to focus his efforts on making his Visionaria AR glasses instead. Strattzr's departure from GLHF causes OpDaMyZr and PWNZR to go furious, calling him a "traitor" and the pair continue to fight with each other over who's the best in GLHF, effectively dissolving the e-sports group.
UPDATE: I've become really obsessed with chess a few months after finishing this track and realised the original cover artwork had a lot of errors. This track's cover artwork has now been updated with a chess clock, more detailed chess pieces, a better view of the board, and better piece placement like how grandmasters would play it, and corrects a placement of a black pawn on the 8th rank which is impossible. Technically this board is a middlegame, and not an endgame, but I love the piece placement and "Endgame" sounds a lot cooler for a title!
This chess board's FEN (after Robin plays 45. Qd1):
5rk1/7p/2Q3p1/3pq3/2p5/4p1P1/2P4P/3Q2K1 w - - 0 1
