Disco Desrtuction

An anti-perfect disco track that was my feeble attempt to kick perfectionism out of my brain for good, though it's still an ongoing battle!

Disco Desturction (a deliberate typo) soundtracks my ongoing fight against the badgering perfectonist in my head, as a sort of "protest track" deliberately designed to infuriate him as much as possible. And it's worked! My inner perfectonist hates this! 😂

After making a once-perfect four-on-the-floor disco track, I'd systematically destroy it by skipping beats, adding weird melodies, reversing audio, making random changes in tempo, pitch, and time signatures, and even abruptly switching genres at one point! đŸŽļ

The social media promotion for this was also imperfect: the promotional videos for this (available on youtube.com/c/MOULEOFFICIAL) were deliberately glitchy and full of typos, letters with different colours, stretched out and reversed letters of different sizes, and every time I mentioned the title and words "perfect" and "perfectionism", they were misspelt on purpose. Even the slogan "kick perfectionsm in the balls" sits a little awkwardly with me, yet I still went with it to further rile up my inner perfecionist.

The cover art was made in Assembly, a graphic design app for iOS! The disco ball symbolises patterns, order and perfectionsm, and MOULE kicking it to pieces symbolises me overcoming my inner perfectiniost. It's purely symbolic, and I have nothing against disco music - in fact, I really love it! đŸĒŠâ¤ī¸

I'm also releasing this on September 23 instead of 22, making this my first release in 2022 to NOT be released on the 22nd day of the month. I tend to obsess about numbers sometimes, and have been unhealthily obsessing about them way too much this year! đŸ˜Ģ

Perfectionsm was really starting to take a toll on my mental health, so making this, which I've had in mind for a while to do, was a creative way of challenging my inner percetionist, and releasing this is symbolic of I and fellow perfectonists uniting to kick perfectionsm in the balls! 👟đŸ’ĨđŸĒŠ

Other facts:

  • It was formally known as "Destroy the Perfcetionist".
  • The track "I Don't Care" by Ben Smith (open.spotify.com/track/55riir2NlKceSz5ey8oiVR?si=b632868c951645c0) was a huge inspiration for this track. It's another track against perfectioism which I discovered on slaps.com!
  • It's my 158th track I've finished since Panthalassa and my 76th release.
