Aquatic (2020)

Formerly named "Dolphins" and then "Atlantis", Aquatic started on November 26, 2018. Despite its cheerful, bubbly sounds, the story behind it is actually very grim: it was made during a very dark time of my life where I had very bad depression, so Aquatic is quite a personal track for me. In a way, it kind of conveys the emotions I went through. It was the happiest-sounding thing I produced out of many angrier tracks at the time (like Styx).

I was working on one of those sad tracks, and I randomly chose this bubbly sound to play. I just held down a bunch of random notes on my keyboard and had the arpeggiator set to play the notes randomly. Then this surprisingly cheerful melody plays out which you hear throughout this track.

I put that MIDI data in its own track and named it Dolphins. I had to position a part of this melody to start on a C note at the beginning of each bar, which explains why before the "dive" you hear at the end of the beginning, you hear the melody start early again. I hope this makes sense!

Noting the rather aquatic sound of this track, I called it Dolphins. I didn't like it, so I chose Atlantis, but I thought that title was too overdone for tracks, so I decided to stick with a name which describes this track so simply: "Aquatic".

It now has a refreshed cover art as of 30 June 2021 - what do you think?
