2024 OVERWHELM was created on November 15, 2023 and finished 8 days later, during another major musical rut. I didn't feel like making this, but for the sake of consistency with my other 202X releases where each year gets 2 tracks for both halves of the year, I pushed myself through and finished this track.
As I felt uninspired making this, it was initially hard to put together, so I copied some extratone samples I made for my track Extratone Beauty Cream and 10000 OVERKILL and overlapped them to get the "full-on" sound characteristic of the 202X tracks.
As per this track's title, it is unapologetically overwhelming, with numerous 8000 BPM blast beats with 4000, 2000, and 1000 BPM blast beats interspersed throughout, as the world's events are just too overwhelming for us and the overton window gets pushed off a cliff.
I should note that the version I released to Spotify, Apple Music etc is a few seconds shorter to be 9 minutes and 58 seconds, as Apple Music treats tracks over 10 minutes like albums and significantly increases the price. It was intended to fade out seamlessly, but instead cuts off abruptly. Sorry about that!
As with all my 202X Aesthetic cover artworks, I made using the Assembly app by Pixite on iPad. I started it by importing assets I designed for previous 202X cover artworks, seeing as they would be used again to depict similar events of the first half of this year. This saved me a lot of time and took me 7 hours to create; my previous 202X artwork 2024 OVERFLOW took 11 hours, but that was because I spent more time creating unique elements for it like the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse and the auroras. Symbolising our planet spiralling out of control, a giant spiral covers the artwork with the Earth in the centre, with greater than 1.5ºC global warming.
Each track's cover artwork in the 202X series has a black-and-another-colour chaotic cartoon collage aesthetic I call the "202X aesthetic" and all include a word starting with "OVER" in their titles. Given the mass feeling of being overwhelmed by world events increasingly spiralling out of control, I eventually decided this track will be codenamed "OVERWHELM" and use grey to symbolise the bleakness and seriousness of current world events.
