2021 OVERCOME is part of an extreme genre of electronic music called "extratone" - music that's 1000 BPM or faster. As my "202X OVER____" tracks' tempos reflect how crazy each half of a year in the 2020s is, 2021 OVERCOME sits at 1200 BPM. I think the second half of 2021 is less extreme than the first half was, which is why "2021 OVERRUN" was 1500 BPM and this one is a little slower.

I felt like making something a little more happier-sounding as opposed to the doom and gloom of the previous 202X OVER____ tracks I've made. We're winning against the COVID-19 pandemic! As the world is showing signs of pre-2020 society come back, with the removal of mask mandates and a rise in vaccinations, and with international agreements made for a ecologically-friendlier future, we have "overcome 2021" and collectively made positive steps forward.

2021 OVERCOME is split into two parts:

The first three minutes are ominous and aggressive, a familiar sound like the previous three 202X OVER____ tracks were. It symbolises our struggle with COVID-19 and social unrest.

The second three minutes, however, are much more optimistic, melodic, and a burst of positive energy! It symbolises us slowly "overcoming" COVID-19 thanks to vaccination and science, as well as taking steps towards a carbon-negative future. However, we're not out of the woods yet, with new coronavirus variants forming and the overcoming of supply chain disruptions and shortages. Certainly a far cry from the lockdowns of 2020 though!

2021 OVERCOME's cover art conveys its negative-to-positive sound and all that transpired in the second half of 2021, including (clockwise from the upper-left): the rise in dangerous weather, the rise in full vaccination + boosters and the unlocking of international travel, rising temperatures, the chip shortage, food shortages and expensive items, climate activism, COP26 and other climate change conferences, the rise of cybercrime, the metaverse / AR / VR, the rise of NFTs, virtual meetings, the rise of ecommerce, overwhelmed post offices, sporting events with pandemic protocols, the overthrowing of countries, AUKUS / nuclear submarines, the Californian oil spill, water pollution, contamination, high fuel prices and military distribution of petrol, increased wildfires, and continued social unrest even during floods.

Other facts about 2021 OVERCOME:

• The numbers on the athletes in the bottom-right corner is actually the release date for Coronathletics (moule.bandcamp.com/track/coronathletics), a similar track about sports during the pandemic.
• It was originally called 2021 OVERDONE and 2021 OVERTON.
• There's a QUOKKA hidden in the cover art somewhere! See if you can find it!
• Despite production starting on August 13, 2021, It was mostly worked on and finished in the early stages of December. 2021 OVERCOME was one of the more stressful tracks to create time-wise, whereas the cover art took weeks to make and put in all the details.
• It's my 146th track and 62nd release.
